Tara at SEJ Conference
October 24, 2008, by H. Emerson Blake

Managing Editor Tara Miner attended the Society of Environmental Journalists conference in Virginia earlier this October. While there, she took part in a SEJ tour of the Western Virginia Regional Jail. The 264,000 square-foot building is still under construction and was designed to obtain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Several of the green design strategies include: rainwater reclamation, water electronic monitoring, vacuum waste and plumbing systems, siphonic roof drains, and an Energy Star roof.
