Join a dialogue hosted by Orion magazine on the educational system with author and contributing editor Erik Reece, plus eminent education thinkers Dr. Leon Botstein and Deborah Meier, September 21 at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific.
Reece writes in the September/October issue of Orion that “We need schools, as novelist Mark Slouka recently wrote, that produce ‘men and women capable of furthering what’s best about us and forestalling what’s worst.’ ”
Is our education system close to this ideal, or is it suffering under standardized testing requirements and outdated philosophy? The answer is likely both, and this live web event is a unique opportunity to hear Reece expand on some of the ideas in his Orion feature, “The Schools We Need,” and to discuss some useful responses and alternatives promoted by the other educators on the panel. They will also answer listener questions.
The event will be moderated by Orion staff and is free and open to all readers and friends. Registration is required, and you can do so here.
We hope you can join us!
