Orion Returns to the Wild & Scenic Film Festival

Last year, Orion was a sponsor of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, held in Nevada City and Grass Valley, California (check out a few of last year’s photos over here). We’re back again January 9 – 12, 2014, to partake in the festivities. Recently, we asked festival director Melinda Booth what Orion readers can look forward to at the twelfth annual event.

The theme in 2014 is “Empowerment.” What are some of the film topics featured this year?

Festival-goers can expect to see award-winning films about nature, community activism, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, and indigenous cultures. For the second consecutive year, the film festival will also feature 3-D film sessions, a unique opportunity not typically found in other film festivals.

Why is Wild & Scenic sometimes called the “next Sundance”?

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival brings together environmental activists, celebrities and other influential folks to view more than 120 films over four days.

But I can only watch so many films. What else is happening at the festival?

It’s not just film! Wild & Scenic brings artists, locals, and tourists from all over the world to the downtowns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, creating a truly festive atmosphere. There will be art exhibits, a number of activism-related workshops, a fair, wine stroll, and evening parties, all in one of the most beautiful areas of California.
