Brenda Peterson Reads “Wolf Music”

Did you know that when wolves howl, they harmonize with one another? Or that if a human imitates a howl, nearby wolves will modulate their voices and chime in? Listen to author Brenda Peterson read “Wolf Music,” a chapter from her new book, Wolf Nation: The Life, Death, and Return of Wild American Wolves, from which her piece in the March/April 2017 issue’s Lay of the Land section is excerpted.

Brenda Peterson is author of over 23 books, including the memoir, I Want to Be Left Behind, selected as a “Top Ten Best Non-Fiction” book by the Christian Science Monitor and an Indie Next “Great Read,” by Independent Booksellers. Her novel, Duck and Cover, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Her most recent books are Wolf Nation: The Life, Death, and Return of Wild American Wolves, chosen as a “Best Conservation Book of the Year” by Forbes magazine; her children’s books include Wild Orca, Lobos, Catastrophe by the Sea, and the new illustrated digital book Crane Maiden. Her work has appeared on NPR and in The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Tikkun, Seattle Times, Orion, and Oprah magazine.
