Love in the Climate Crisis: An Orion & NRDC Winter Issue Event
February 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST
What does it mean to love someone in the midst of disaster? How has our practice of love adapted to the climate crisis? How are our collective desires evolving to find community in a time of unprecedented isolation? Sponsored by NRDC, Orion’s winter 2023 issue, Courting Disaster: Romance in the Climate Crisis, illuminates the many ways in which modern romance reveals the impacts of climate disaster.
Co-presented by NRDC and Orion Magazine, this virtual event will celebrate the issue by featuring contributors Lulu Miller (author of Why Fish Don’t Exist and co-host of Radiolab) and Erica Berry (author of Wolfish) in conversation with Ticora Jones, Chief Science Officer at NRDC. The panel will be moderated by Orion’s editor-in-chief Sumanth Prabhaker.
Erica is the author of Wolfish: Wolf, Self, and the Stories We Tell about Fear. A former writer in residence with the National Writers Series in Traverse City, Michigan, she is currently a fellow at the Attic Institute of Arts and Letters and a Writer in the Schools with Literary Arts in Portland.
Chief Science Officer Dr. Ticora V. Jones is leading the efforts to expand NRDC’s vision to support the scientific and evidence-based nucleus for organizational strategy and advocacy. Prior to joining NRDC, Dr. Jones served nearly 15 years at USAID (United States Agency for International Development) most recently as agency chief scientist, executive director for innovation, technology & research, and managing director for research.
Lulu is the cohost of Radiolab, host of Terrestrials, co-founder of Invisibilia, and author of the national bestseller Why Fish Don’t Exist.
Sumanth is Orion’s editor-in-chief and the founder of Madras Press, a charitable publisher of small books. He holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
